Our Staff

Kimberly Boyd, Director

Kimberly joined Hands On Network in May of 2006 to develop and direct the new Hands On Schools initiative. Kimberly has over 18 years of management experience in the non-profit, research and government sectors, including supporting over 300 Head Start programs across the Southeast and leading the development and expansion of the Center for Creative Play, a fully inclusive family play center in Pittsburgh, PA. Kimberly, her husband and 3 children have called Atlanta home for 7 years. She has a B.S. degree from Duke University and a Masters in Social Work from the University of Pittsburgh.

Chelsea Arkin, Project Management Coordinator

Chelsea Arkin joined Hands On Network in December of 2006 as a Citizen Action AmeriCorps member for the Hands On Schools initiative. Recently, she has been working to establish and implement the program by helping to develop the Hands On School Box, assisting affiliates with their own projects by serving as a project manager, as well as supporting the project in other capacities. Chelsea earned a B.A. from Bryn Mawr College in 2004 where she studied The Growth and Structure of Cities/History of Art. In the fall she will begin a Masters program in City and Regional Planning at Georgia Tech.

Cecilio Orta, Technology Coordinator

Cecilio Orta joined Hands On Network in January of 2007, as a Citizen Action Americorps member for the Hands On Schools initiative. Most recently, Cecilio has been working on the Hands On Schools website and providing project management support for upcoming Hands On Schools projects. Prior to becoming a Citizen Action Americorps member, Cecilio was in the United States Army for four years. Cecilio recently completed a dual A.S. degree in Internet Management & Computer Information Technology from Limestone College and will begin pursuing his Bachelors in Psychology with Limestone College, in Spring 2008.

Laila Rubin, Curriculum and After-School Programming Coordinator

Laila Rubin joined Hands On Network in December of 2006 as a Citizen Action AmeriCorps member for the Hands On Schools initiative. Most recently, she has been working on helping get the program established by editing the How to Manual and Tool Kit, assisting affiliates in the implementation of Hands On School projects, and organizing other aspects of the program. She has a B.A. degree from Emory University where she studied Psychology and Art, and served as a Peer Counselor/Educator. She is going back to school in the fall to get a Masters in Social Work from Georgia State University.
