Hands On Schools | Project Listing

You CAN Make a Difference

According to a recent survey*, one in four parents believe that they cannot make a substantive change in their child's school. The Hands On School model provides parents, school administrators, and community members with the resources, instruction, and tools necessary to bring about measurable change in their local schools.

Hands On Schools is designed to provide practical solutions to the problems that continue to plague public education. Studies demonstrate clear links between sustained community engagement and declining drop out rates, and the positive effects on student achievement when schools are properly equipped and well designed.

This approach ensures broad community engagement—an antidote to the trend of disengaged and less cohesive communities. School revitalization is not limited to a physical transformation of the building, but goes further in developing programs that seek to improve the educational experience. Students are given ongoing training to become Youth Volunteer Leaders. In that leadership role, students help to execute all elements of the volunteer projects and initiate a legacy of service to the community.
