Project Description
Neighborhood cleanups are an easy way to engage a large number of volunteers to complete a sizeable amount of work oin a limited budget in a comparatively short amount of time. There are many resources available in planning a neighborhood cleanup and it can be a great way to engage city officials and local residents in a meaningful way.
Targeted Outcomes and Benefits

  • Increase community awareness
  • Reduce litter and improve te appearance of  neighborhood
  • Create a sense of community and pride among neighborhood residents
  • Lay the groundwork for maintaining a clean neighborhood over time

Materials Needed

  • VOLUNTEERS
  • Landscape supplies- may include, but not limited to: gloves, trash bags, shovels, rakes, hoes, picks, an axe, saws, weed eaters, lawn mowers, wheelbarrows, a leaf blower, brooms
  • Dumpsters- attempt to obtain access to dumpsters through the city public works dept. at no cost if possible
  • Painting supplies- (Necessary if covering graffiti)
  • Maps- for outlining to volunteers the designated area to be cleaned 
  • Bathrooms- (port-o-potties)

Estimated Time and Cost

  • When estimating the time and cost, include the preparation days needed and the actual days of work in the calculations.
  • The number of volunteers will be determined based on the area and the extent ot work to be completed 
  • Time and costs can be minimized if resources and materials can be made available through local city governments or environmental organizations.
  • Project tasks can be expanded or reduced based on the amt of money and resources available.
  • Hard costs include: all suppliesss and tools, rental of dumpsters & port-o-potties, food/water, copying costs for flyers, maps, waiver forms, evaluations, and the cost of nametags and pens.
