Webb Middle school is a mostly-minority school located on the edge between central and east Austin. It almost closed its doors last year because of a district restructuring plan.
Thanks to a groundswell of community support, Webb's doors are open once again to its student community. The terrace is in celebration of its new beginning and of its newfound relationship with the neighborhoods that sustain it.
The terrace will incorporate colorful tilework and benches which will provide a beautiful gathering place for the student and neighborhood community. The entire front area of the school will be included in a comprehensive and inspired design that will greet students and the neighborhood.
Our Broken Tile Drive will continue throughout the 2007-2008 school year. We are asking for donations of broken plates and pottery, tile and stone remnants, and glass pieces (smooth edges) to incorporate into the artwork.
Volunteers are needed to help organize fundraisers, including bake sales and an art festival in May. Volunteers are also needed to help organize student teams, and to visit businesses for donations of materials. Our project goal is $20,000.
