Hands On Schools Project in Hartford (Corporate Month of Service 2007)
On September 27, Hands On Hartford engaged 250-300 volunteers in their 2007 Corporate Month of Service Hands On Schools project. This project focused on the Betances Elementary School, where children face severe educational obstacles.
For their Hands On Schools project, volunteers helped to construct 15-20 indoor and outdoor reading areas, and implemented a year-long reading enhancement curriculum. They will helped to build bookshelves in the library and classrooms, as well as create kid friendly reading corners/nooks/lofts in classrooms and throughout the school.
